Hypnotherapy Courses: An introduction to our Strategic Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy Courses
Hypnotherapy is a series of processes and therapeutic techniques that use accredited hypnosis training to access and address the unconscious mind. For a long time, experts believed that meaningful and sustained change could be achieved using a standardised set of scripted hypnotic commands. But the range of therapeutic techniques has evolved a significant amount in the last few decades.
Unlike stage hypnosis, the purpose of clinical hypnotherapy training is to teach prospective hypnotherapists how to bypass the conscious interference of their clients’ minds. In this way, practitioners can help them solve problems at an unconscious level.
In 2001, a working group was commissioned to survey the evidence compiled on the effectiveness of clinical hypnosis as a therapeutic tool by the British Psychological Society. According to their findings,
‘Enough studies have now accumulated to suggest that the inclusion of hypnotic procedures may be beneficial in the management and treatment of a wide range of conditions and problems encountered in the practice of medicine, psychiatry and psychotherapy’.
With the acceptance of clinical hypnosis as a valid therapeutic solution by both the medical and mental health professions, more clients than ever are open to exploring this option. This, in turn, means that taking accredited hypnotherapy courses is not just a good idea, it is essential. With this powerful tool in your arsenal, you can provide clients with a treatment scientifically proven to deliver long-term results.
One of the most effective modern forms of hypnotherapy employs Strategic Psychotherapy. A term coined by Dr Jay Hayley, it is a form of therapy that falls under the broad spectrum of ‘cognitive behavioural brief therapies’. With this approach, the clinician will first work with their client to define and agree on the issues to be targeted and the final goal of the treatment.
Once this has been established, clinical hypnotherapists will then design a treatment program that applies a specific approach for each individual problem. Rather than using a one size fits all treatment plan, strategic psychotherapists use a blend of different methods and approaches to treat these issues. A blend tailored to both the preferences and needs of each individual client.
This may include NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) techniques as well as certain cognitive/behavioural methods.

How do I benefit from taking a hypnotherapy course?

IAP Hypnotherapy Courses in Sydney
Considering the many myths and the controversy that surrounds the practice of hypnotherapy, it is understandable that you may be sceptical about signing up for hypnosis training in Sydney. However, if you want to make a real difference in people’s lives, hypnosis is not just the most effective way to do this, it is arguably the quickest way to become qualified and effective as a therapist. Increasingly the demand for hypnotherapists outstrips the number of modern strategic hypnotherapists available to offer treatment.
So to alleviate your concerns, here are some facts about our Sydney based hypnotherapy course.
When it comes to solving both mental and physical health problems, the hypnotic trance state is an incredibly flexible tool. It can be applied to almost any client. To further explain this, here are some of the common ways medical and mental health professionals are making use of hypnotherapy:
- Helping clients to quit smoking or overcome overeating by gently suggesting healthier behaviours and focusing their minds on new possibilities or the resources they have within them.
- Relieving chronic and acute pain by accessing the mind-body link, even during childbirth or surgery. Hypnotherapy has even been shown to be effective in the treatment of stubborn physical afflictions such as IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and some dermatological conditions, especially eczema.
- Probing deeply within the unconscious mind in order to discover and treat the root causes of various mental health issues including PTSD, addiction, anxiety and depression.
Strategic Psychotherapy is considered the leading and most progressive discipline within the field of hypnotherapy. As with all forms of therapy, the goal is to resolve a client’s presenting problem. The difference with strategic therapy is its holistic focus on a person’s current experience. In other words, not just their internal thinking or state, but also how they interact and react to other people or their environment in general.
This core principle makes Strategic Psychotherapy very similar to CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) as it tries to challenge and disrupt someone’s usual patterns of behaviour by addressing the triggers behind destructive thoughts and actions.
- As we are a Registered Training Organisation (RTO# 70206) providing Government Accredited training. Our trainers are subjected to strict auditing processes that non-RTO trainers are not.
- We provide a 10450NAT Diploma of Clinical Hypnosis and Strategic Psychotherapy, which is government accredited and recognised under the Australian Quality Framework.
- Our hypnotherapy course offers Cognitive and Solution-Oriented Clinical Hypnosis training, making it the only course of its kind available in Australia today.
- Your teachers are the top in their field in the country, and according to some, in the world as well. With over four decades of combined experience between them, you will learn modern clinical hypnosis from trainers who have intimate knowledge of the everyday practice of hypnotherapy.
- In addition to our comprehensive training on this powerful therapeutic aid, we provide the tools necessary to establish your own hypnotherapy practice in Sydney in as little as 30 days of completing our course.

Our experience is that it is hard to absorb the material and become competent when
there is no time for experimentation and feedback over a period of time.

retrained people from other schools who either pulled out or completed and did not
feel competent to practice.
“Originally I trained with (ANOTHER SYDNEY SCHOOL) I met Gordon through a friend
and he generously invited me to sit in on his class for a day. Even though technically I was
already qualified, I stayed!!!! The difference in the quality of the training, the content and the
delivery was immediately obvious. I filled in a lot of experiential gaps I still had even after 18
months of training.”
It was practical, professional and fun. If I had my time over again I would not hesitate …I
would save my time and money and train with the Australian Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy.”
